Chris Lewis, owner of Lewis Insurance, plans to celebrate 20 years in business this September. Lewis Insurance will host an anniversary open house on Friday, September 10th from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. at 107 S. 14th St. The event will include a cookout, giveaways, and door prizes.
Lewis is a Blue River Valley graduate and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Anderson University. He has lived in this community his entire life and is involved in BNI Prime Time, The YMCA Board of Directors and is a member of South Memorial Drive Church of God. He has two children, Makenzie and Tyson, and just recently became engaged to Amy Reece.
Lewis began his insurance career while working under Ruth Hayworth. “I wouldn’t have pursued owning my own insurance agency if it hadn’t been for Ruth,” Lewis explained. “She taught me quite a bit about the industry and gave me the confidence to do my job well on my own and I knew I wanted to own an agency in the community I grew up in.”
Even though it was twenty years ago, Lewis can still remember the day he opened the doors to Lewis Insurance in 2001. He vividly recalls the tragedy surrounding 9/11 flooding the news the day after he started his new company.
A lot has changed in those twenty years - like technology and being able to be more accessible to his clients. Over the years Lewis has had several good employees and he hired his first agent, Stacie Wrightsman, in 2019. Along with Lewis and Wrightsman the agency currently has Kim Kilgore as their Office Manager. The office moved from its longtime Broad Street location to the 14th Street address almost 2 years ago and they love being in the heart of downtown New Castle.
Lewis is proud of the business he has built and is happy to say that it continues to grow each year. One thing that has been a constant in the 20 years is the loyalty of his customers. “I’ve built a lot of relationships since opening my business,” Lewis added. “I love being able to help others, and them knowing they can trust me on their toughest days.”
